
Spreading across the area of 55 Sq km Aralam wildlife sanctuary is located on the slopes of the Western Ghats. Established in the year of 1984 the wildlife sanctuary is the northernmost wildlife sanctuary of Kerala. The forest type includes West coast tropical evergreen forest, West coast semi evergreen forests, South Indian moist deciduous forests, Southern hilltop evergreen forest and various plantations.
On the whole, the Aralam wildlife sanctuary is a home to some of the most exotic species of flora and fauna. It has 23 mammal species, 188 species of birds, 22 species of reptiles, 16 species of amphibians and 39 species of fishes.
