Bekal Fort, Kasargod

Bekal Fort is one of the largest and best preserved Forts situated in the Kasargod district of Kerala. Spreading across 40 acres of land the beautiful expanses of the shallow beach near the Bekal Fort is known as Bekal Fort Beach which has been developed as an exotic beach location by the Bekal Resorts Development Corporation. Unlike most other Indian Forts, Bekal Fort was not the centre of administration as there was no remains of any palaces, mansions or such buildings are found in the Fort. The Fort was built exclusively for fulfilling defense requirements. Important features of this fort are the water tank with its flight of steps, the tunnel opening towards the South, the magazine for keeping ammunition and broad and wide steps leading to the Observation tower. The Bekal Fort offers its visitors panoramic views of the towns and places that are in close vicinity to it. The Observation Center had strategic significance in discovering even the smallest movements of the enemy.

Tourist department has done plenty of things for the beautification of beach. The site includes the installation of two sculptures of Theyyam , a rock garden at the parking area , a beautiful walkways to explore the beauty of the fine coastline that offer the panoramic views of the Bekal Fort, a Children Park, multi shed and tree houses are some of them.
